The summer months are the perfect to opportunity to unplug from school routines and reconnect as a family. The weather is delightful and the days are long.
Are you asking yourself, “what can I do with my children this summer?”. We’ve got you covered! Here are fun family staycation ideas to do with your family.
Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Choose a theme and let it the good times roll. A quick Google search for ‘scavenger hunt for kids’ will provide you with a plethora of options. Check out 22 Best Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Kids – Indoor or Outdoor (goodhousekeeping.com). If you are really lucky, this will keep the kids occupied for a good amount of time.
A Day at the Museum
Search for local museums in your neighborhood or nearby city. This is the perfect way to spend the day especially when the weather is unbearable outside. Visit the museum’s website to find upcoming events or programs for children.
Pitch a tent, roast some s’mores and tell ghost stories by the fire. You literally don’t have to leave your own backyard!
Story Hour at Your Local Library
Visit your local libraries and surrounding area for story hour. Most libraries also offer summer reading programs for children. This is a great way to keep your children engaged in literacy and reading throughout the summer months.
You can keep it simple or get as elaborate as you want. Choose a theme (or not). Pick out or make a special snack for the movie. Turn your living room into a theater with lots of comfy pillows and blankets. Most importantly, everyone must turn off/silence their electronic devices just like at a real movie theater. Shhhh! Quiet in the theater, please
Pack a Picnic
Find a local park or beach to have a family picnic. Packing a picnic does not have to be as daunting as it seems. If your children are old enough they can pack their own picnic bag or basket. Or you can do a run to the market to pick up prepared food items. What gets better than eating outdoors in good company? Don’t forget to pack a ball, frisbee or a deck of cards!
We hope you are able to enjoy one or two of these activities with your children this summer. Either of these activities could be a great lasting summer memory for your family.
